GreenQuest Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Who is behind GreenQuest?
A1. GreenQuest is the brainchild of Martin Heneghan and Tom Canavan, from Castlebar, Co. Mayo. They were prompted by the success of their online civics programme for second level schools (www.graduate.ie) and their similar US programme promoting Science and Technology, to do something similar for households on the theme of sustainability. Padraic Larkin is the Science Advisor to the project. He lives in Wexford and has worked in the environmental field for over 30 years. He is an ex-Director and Deputy Director General of the Irish Environmental Protection Agency.
Q2. Why did you set up GreenQuest.ie?
A2. In the wake of the collapse of the global and Irish economy in 2009 we wanted to contribute, in some small way, towards rebuilding our economy on more sustainable lines. One way to contribute is to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and energy conservation, particularly at the household level, and we felt that the model of an online quiz with monthly prizes (as used in www.graduate.ie) was a method of engaging people.
Q3. How are the prizes funded?
A3. The prizes are funded initially through sponsorship from a number of public and private companies as listed on our home page and include a range of ‘green’ prizes including a low-emissions Peugeot motorcar. All sponsorship monies collected are given out as prizes. As membership grows we hope to raise funds to offer even better prizes in the future including an energy makeover of your home and a large cash prize.
Q4. Can anyone enter the competition?
A4. Anyone over the age of 13 years can register and be eligible for a prize.
Q5. How will I know if I have won a prize?
A5. If you win a prize you will be notified by email and a rosette will appear on your profile panel.
Q6. If I want to make a suggestion or comment how can I do so?
A6. We welcome all comments and suggestions for improvement of the website or your tips on sustainable living. Click on the ‘Contact Us’ button on the home page to make a submission. Also you can post a message or comment from your member's profile. As membership grows we plan to develop an open forum on the site to allow ideas to be exchanged and questions raised and answered.
Q7. I have a question that is not answered above. What should I do?
A7. Click on the ‘Contact Us’ button, submit your question and we will get back to you with the answer as soon as possible. If appropriate we will then add the question and answer to this list of Frequently Asked Questions.
